  • Members of the First Baptist Church of Tomball spent the week in the Cleveland/Tarkington area helping spruce up Doland Baptist Church and assist needy community members with small construction projects during the week of July 10. Despite heavy rain, church members landscaped the front of Doland Baptist Church, installed a jungle gym, painted rooms and expanded the church's youth area.

Humble ISD unveils largest high school video screen in the USA

  • Humble ISD unveiled the largest high school video screen in the country during a press conference in preparation for the upcoming AAU Junior Olympic Games at George Turner Stadium on June 12. The 960 square foot video board, paid for by the Junior Olympics, will allow Humble ISD to stream game and athlete statistics, live video, instant replays and advertisements simultaneously. In addition to the new screen, Turner Stadium will also have awnings build over the stands and a new road will be built to lessen traffic in and out of the stadium.

Burning 18-wheeler causes delays on U.S. 59

  • An 18-wheeler on fire caused major traffic delays in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 59 at Greens Rd. around 2 p.m. Monday, May 14. The truck was pulled over to the side of the road as firefighters of Houston and Eastex fire departments extinguished the flames. No other vehicles appeared to be involved. The cause of the fire is not known at this time. As of 3 p.m., traffic was slowly beginning to clear.
